| The Auburn USBC is well represented in the Syracuse Post-Standard Masters. Rick Lambrecht is the 2011 Champion while Gary Feldman is the 2011 Runner-Up.
That's 2 years in a row an Auburn USBC bowler has won the coveted crown... great bowling fellas. Here's a nice article by Fran Piraino that covers the finals as well as great photos of the finalists. Questions and Answers with the 2011 Post Standard Masters Champion, Rick Lambrecht, by Mike Ryan Mike: It has been a few days now since you won the Post Standard Masters tournament, Has it sank in yet? Rick: Yes, after all the hubbub from the last two days, its starting to slow down now. I received my DCD copy of the finals which made it more real. Mike: You raised the bar as the only person with three Master's titles in three different associations, how do you feel about that? Rick: It is a unique accomplishment. I feel the format in Syracuse and Auburn is slightly better than the one in Homer. Also, the caliber of bowlers in Syracuse is better. Mike: The other three bowlers had a combined average of less than 200, you bowled a 247 game, what gives? Rick: After the tournament, I was talking to the lane mat. He said my approach up 7-8 board was where the shot was. Mike: Did you notice much difference in the setting with all the lights and cameras vs. regular league bowling? Rick: Yes there were some differences. Having people sitting up near the foul line was tough to get used to. Also, the foul line camera was always moving around. My friend, Jeff Matty said to just burn a hole in the lane with my eyes to keep me from noticing any distractions. The lights did get pretty hot. Mike: Would you rather bowl against a fellow league bowler, such as Gary Feldman, or someone you don't know? Rick: Definitely someone I don't know. I bowled Gary twice and beat him twice. I would've felt better if it wasn't Gary. Mike: Any final advice to our young stars out there currently bowling in the Byrn's Junior Masters? Rick: I keep my game simple, not flashy. I see a lot of young bowlers with lots of revs and strikes. It seems they forget about spares. They also get into trouble with splits too. Keep it simple. I would also encourage sportsmanship. Our sport really needs it. Mike: Thanks Rick for your time and input. Congratulations again on a fine performance. |
