Auburn bids farewell to local President
On December 31, 2009, Auburn USBC President, Dennis O'Donnell plans to step down from his local bowling association's board member position. The current terms for the President's position are a maximum of 2, two year terms. When the local charter began on May 1, 2006, the terms then were for one year only. The board elected to change the local by-laws to the current 2 year terms.
This is not the reason for Dennis to step down. He feels that he has done his time and is ready to move on, completing his agenda if you will. If you are reading this, then you can see just one of his accomplishments. What I mean is that we've installed this website as another means of communicating with our bowlers. Dennis has also changed the way with working with the Auburn USBC WBA as the two boards now work closer together as a team and by doing that, the Auburn USBC BA & WBA have come up with a new tournament in the Association Mixed team event held in the spring of each year. Dennis has also supported the start of the Pilat Graphic Design Sport Challenge, a PBA sport patterned tournament that attracts some of Central New York's finest bowlers to our association. Also, among other items, the men's and women's board have now combined their annual Hall of Fame and awards banquet to the same night. For these accomplishments, Dennis has earned one of Auburn's most elite awards, the Meritorious Service award which represents his love and dedication to this sport.
Dennis is still involved in bowling in a very big way though. He does run the local Auburn 700 club tournaments successfully. He also has joined the new Empire State Bowling Association as a Jurisdictional Director (formerly the New York State Bowling Association) and is still the league secretary for the largest league in Auburn, the Luke Bianco Memorial League. With all of this involvement, Dennis said he would still help run tournaments and train current board members on the tournament software if needed.
On behalf of the Auburn USBC BA, I would like to thank Dennis for all of his hard work and dedication on making our local association a much better place to bowl. We all really appreciate everything he's done.
So the next question is, who is next? Rick Liccion has decided to step up from his director position. We feel as a board that Rick can fulfill the President's duties. Rick is a knowledgeable bowler and can help maintain our current board and also come up with some new ideas along the way. When you see Rick, please welcome him as he leads our association for at least another year and a half.
